Rebuilding of 'De Ster'

After the houses and sheds were restored, in 1988 neighbourhood residents initiated an effort to rebuild the mill. They established Foundation De Sterremolen which succeeded in raising 1,7 million guilders (£ 550,000 or $ 900,000). In 1996, the rebuilding of the mill started.

In September 1998, the body and cap of the mill were replaced on top of the sawing factory by the mill construction firm of Poland from Broek op Langedijk, north of Amsterdam. Thus, after 87 years, the yard had its pre-1911 appearance again. The mill firm also prepared the mill for sawing by providing it with the sawing technique and all other parts to make a mill safe and operable.

In June 1999, an official ceremony and a weekend festival took place to celebrate the opening of the mill. From March 2000 on, the sawmill will once again utilize wind power to saw wood.
